ERICK TORRES FEELING THE LOVE IN TIJUANA

New Club Tijuana striker describes first weeks with the team

MAZATLAN, Mexico (June 13, 2018) –Erick Torres hasn’t been with Club Tijuana that long and he is already feeling the love.

“I am impressed by the way the people have received me,” Torres said. “I’ve had the chance to walk to a couple of shopping centers and restaurants in Tijuana. It’s a nice city with loyal and passionate fans who cheer to the death and make Estadio Caliente feel alive.”

And Torres said he’s feeling alive during the Xolotizcuintles’ preseason training camp in Mazatlan ahead of the 2018 Apertura. Torres joined the team earlier this month during the week of transactions in the LIGA MX. The striker came from Puma UNAM of Mexico City and he said he’s ready for the new challenge in his career.

“I am very happy that the front office was interested in me and looked at a Mexican player with experience at the youth national team level and senior team, too,” Torres said. “I’ve been able to score goals in Mexico and in the (MLS). That’s the most important thing that keeps me motivated. Xolos is a great team that always competes and is always fighting for a championship and be in the playoffs.”

Torres has had standout seasons with Chivas and Cruz Azul while in the LIGA MX and once broke the single season scoring record in Major League Soccer while playing for the Houston Dynamo. He’s adjusted back to Mexican soccer and is looking forward to meshing in with Club Tijuana.

“I here to give it my all. I know about its fans,” Torres said. “I know that it’s fans are very loyal and intense and that they are die-hards at the stadium. I am very motivated to do things well and to score and can celebrate them wearing this jersey.”

The striker knows he joins a squad that had a deep run into the playoffs last season. He hopes to contribute to another possible run.

“This is a strong group,” Torres said. “It was very close to reaching the finals last season. There are Mexican players here with a lot of talent. And it’s not a secret that Xolos has foreign players with great quality. They always compete. They always come here to contribute to the team and that makes me feel good. It motivates me to work hard and try to earn a spot.”

Torres began his career as a teenager and has had many experiences. He said he’s at a more mature phase in his career now that he’s in Tijuana.

“I’ve been through a lot of positive and negative experiences,” Torres said. “I have now reached a mature state in my career and at the personal level as well. It motivates me to do things well, to work and earn many things with Xolos.”

And part of those many things is earning the fans’ support. Which he says he already feels he has.

“Thank you for your welcoming and for the messages on social media, when they see me and say hello on the street,” Torres said. “It makes me feel good and happy. It motivates me to come here and get results and represent them with dignity in the tournament.”
