CLUB TIJUANA EARNS ANOTHER WIN AT HOME
Xoloitzcuintles undefeated at Estadio Caliente with 1-0 win vs. Pumas UNAM
TIJUANA (Aug. 26, 2016)-Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles continues to add points at home. Another match at Estadio Caliente, another win. This time, coach Miguel Herrera’s team beat visiting Pumas UNAM 1-0 in a Week 7 match of the LIGA MX 2016 Apertura Friday night.
Gabriel Hauche scored for the Xoloitzcuintles to help coach Miguel Herrera’s team to three more points in the standings. Club Tijuana is now 5-1-1 with 16 points in the season. Pumas, one of Mexico’s more popular teams, is 3-2-2 with 11 points, heading into the remainder of the week’s games.
Hauche found the back of the net when he struck a ball on a one-timer, sending it past Pumas goalkeeper Miguel Palacios in the 23rd minute. Hauche was charging in from the right side when he sent his blast in. The Argentine midfielder nearly scored again in similar fashion in the 40th minute, when another one-timer ricocheted off the top of the post.
Hitting the post was a trend for Club Tijuana against Pumas. Colombian striker Dayro Moreno found the woodwork on several occasions. But perhaps his clearest at goal came in the 69th minute when he sent a header off the crossbar. Moreno had a defender on his back when he sent an Aviles Hurtado cross at goal. Hurtado had beaten a couple of defenders with a series of cuts and moves before finding open space and sending his cross to Moreno.
Forward Milton Caraglio nearly scored as well. He also sent a header off the crossbar, this time in the 26th minute.
Moreno and Caraglio were denied by the posts while defender Michael Orozco was denied by the offsides flag. Orozco reached a ball at the end line and fired across to beat Palacios. His shot bounced in for what appeared to be the Club Tijuaan second goal. But the goal was disallowed. Orozco’s shot had hit Moreno in the leg before bouncing in. Moreno was behind the defenders when Orozco kicked the ball, prompting the offsides call.
Pumas had a handful of shots that caused goalkeeper Federico Vilar to make standout saves. The veteran goalkeeper was at the right spots, helping him to a fourth consecutive shutout at home.
Club Tijuana is undefeated at home and has not lost since Week 2 at Puebla. Herrera’s team will now enter a FIFA international break next week before returning to LIGA MX action Sept. 10 at Monterrey for a Week 8 match.
