CLUB TIJUANA 6-2 PUEBLA FC (MARCADOR FINAL)
LIGA MX-Clausura 2017 | Fecha 2

Xoloitzcuintles score four unanswered in 6-2 win in LIGA MX Week 2
TIJUANA (Jan. 13, 2017) –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles celebrated its 10th anniversary Friday night with a flurry of goals. Coach Miguel Herrera’s team scored four unanswered goals in the second half in a 6-2 win against visiting Club Puebla at Estadio Caliente.
Aviles Hurtado (4th and 45th minute) scored twice while Paul Arriola (60th), Milton Caraglio (67th), Ignacio Malcorra (79th) and Joe Corona (84th) scored for the Xoloitzcuintles.
The win gives Club Tijuana its first points of the season, earning three after a 2-0 loss at Monarcas Morelia in the season opener last week. Puebla is now 0-2 in the young LIGA MX 2017 Clausura season.
The Xoloitzcuintles celebrated with skydivers and live music at halftime but the bigger joy came on the field with the goals.
Hurtado scored the first two. His initial goal came on a play in which he flicked the ball, bouncing it just past the stretched out Cristian Campestrini. Pedro Canelo tied the match 1-1 via a penalty kick in the 41st minute. Arriola was whistled for a foul in the area to prompt the PK call. But Arriola quickly made up for the play. He sent a deep pass down the right sideline, finding Hurtado one-on-one with a defender. The Puebla defender missed the ball and left Hurtado alone against Campestrini. The Colombian striker didn’t waste his chance moments before halftime.
In the second half, it appeared Puebla would make it a tough match. Patricio Araujo tied the match 2-2 in the 59th minute when he sent in a loose ball inside the penalty box, catching Club Tijuana goalkeeper Gibran Lajud off guard.
Tijuana would answer with four goals. Arriola blasted in his goal from just inside the penalty box. The Chula Vista, Calif. native buried it to the top-left corner of the net after an errant clear by a Puebla defender. Then Caraglio sent his goal in with an awkward scissor kick but got just enough for the ball to slowly roll past the goal line for a 4-2 Club Tijuana lead.
Malcorra also scored in fancy fashion. The Argentine bent a free kick just over the defensive wall and past a defenseless Campestrini. It was Malcorra’s first goal with Club Tijuana. The free kick came after Corona created a foul just outside the penalty box on a run at goal. Robert Herrera was shown a direct red card for the foul in the 79th minute. Puebla finished with 10 men.
Corona, who returned to Club Tijuana this offseason after a loan to Dorados de Sinaloa, finished out the scoring when he tapped in a loose ball off another errant clear at the mouth of the goal.
Newcomer Martin Lucero nearly scored moments later when he sent a header off a cross but Campestrini slapped it away at the final moment.
The Xoloitzcuintles will now travel to Guadalajara to face Chivas Saturday Jan. 20 in a Week 3 match at Estadio Omnilife. But before that, Herrera’s team will open play in the Copa Corona MX Tuesday Jan. 17 at Cimarrones de Sonora.
