Xoloitzcuintles 0-2 Queretaro FC, LIGA MX 2018 Clausura Week 6

TIJUANA (Feb. 9, 2018) –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles played to a 2-0 loss against visiting Queretaro FC Friday in a Week 6 LIGA MX match at Estadio Caliente.

Edson Puch scored both goals for the Gallos Blancos in the 2018 Clausura match.

Puch converted a penalty kick in the 67th minute after Pablo Aguilar was whistled for a foul. Puch converted his shot, beating Gibran Lajud by inches. Lajud and the Club Tijuana defense had not allowed a goal in 517 minutes, a LIGA MX record since the league went to a short tournament format in 1996. Cruz Azul’s Jose Corona held the record (478 minutes).

Puch’s first goal came when Club Tijuana defender Juan Carlos Valenzuela headed a ball to the center of the penalty box. But no one was there. Aguilar chased it but he was too late and had to create a foul. He was shown his second yellow of the night and was sent off.

Puch added his second of the night when he beat Valenzuela to a ball down the top of the Tijuana key. Puch didn’t waste the chance and rolled in his shot to the lower-left side of the Lajud net.

The Xoloitzcuintles went on to finish the night with nine men when second half substitute Miller Bolaños was shown a red card in the 73rd, a minute after Puch had sent in his second goal of the night.

Club Tijuana is now 2-1-3 with nine points in the standings. It heads into a double match week. It travels to face Pachuca on Valentine’s Day for a Week 7 game and then will host Pumas UNAM in a Week 8 match.
