CLUB TIJUANA WINS AGAIN AT HOME
Xoloitzcuintles 2-0 Puebla FC, LIGA MX 2018 Clausura Week 4
TIJUANA (Jan. 26, 2018) – Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles beat visiting Puebla FC 2-0 in a Week 4 match Friday at Estadio Caliente.
Gustavo Bou (11th minute) and Martin Lucero (71st) scored for coach Diego Cocca’s team in the LIGA MX 2018 Clausura match.
The win gives the Xoloitzcuintles three more points in the standings. Club Tijuana is now 2-0-2 with eight points in the young season.
Bou, making his first start of the season, scored in the 11th minute when he was at the right spot on a shanked shot by Omar Mendoza. Bou, who had not scored since November in the 2017 Apertura, took the low rolling ball and fired into the net. Bou appeared to be fully recovered from a leg injury that kept him out the first three games of the season. Bou nearly scored earlier in the second half but his shot bounced off the left post.
Lucero scored in the 71st minute when he took a pin-point pass from Ignacio Malcorra from left to right. Malcorra sped up the left flank before his precision pass.
The combination of Jose Rivero, Bou and Lucero has helped spark that offensive threat for Cocca’s squad. Add striker Miller Bolanos off the bench with precision play at midfield from Malcorra, Damian Musto and Luis Chavez and Club Tijuana controlled the ball for most of the match.
The Club Tijuana defense continues to play stfling defense. The Xoloitzcuintles is the only team in Mexico with zero goals allowed. Goalkeeper Gibran Lajud pitched his fourth-straight shutout, earning a spot on Mexico’s national team. Lajud will join El Tri in San Antonio for a camp and friendly match Jan. 31.
The Xolos will now cross into San Diego for a friendly against MLS champion Toronto FC Wednesday at USD Torero Stadium. Tijuana will then travel to Torreon to visit Santos Laguna in a Week 5 match.
